Featured Case Study

In July, 2008, Swanson Communications was retained by Affliction Entertainment, a partnership between Affliction Clothing and the Trump Organization, during the promotion of their inaugural Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event—“Affliction Banned.”

Following the hiring of Swanson Communications, the coverage of “Affliction Banned”, the biggest MMA show in the history of the sport, quickly moved off the pages of MMA blogs and onto ESPN.com and the pages of mainstream newspapers such as USA Today and the Los Angeles Times. The agency generated significant national mainstream coverage for the bouts, as we secured interviews for ten of the events fighters in the last crucial few weeks of the promotion. Swanson Communications was also responsible for the execution of three national press conference calls, which featured the event’s top fighters and Donald Trump himself, and created a wide-ranging national awareness of the fighters, the fight and the Affliction Entertainment partnership.

Swanson Communications extensively researched the backgrounds of the fighters, subsequently developing story ideas for mainstream media outlets around the country. The agency also developed an entirely new media list specifically for the MMA beat, therefore delivering pertinent information to all appropriate national media outlets.

During fightweek, Swanson Communications provided on-site support which included assisting in the press center, as well as at the final press conference and weigh-in. On fight night, the agency secured fighter quotes for the media, managed the post-fight press conference and sent out post-highlight feed information to the top-television station sports desks. The staggering results of mainstream press coverage throughout Swanson Communications’ promotion of “Affliction Banned” proved to be enormously successful, and established Affliction Entertainment as a recognized name and force within the world of MMA.
